A PAINTING of the South Perth foreshore has jazzed up a wall and is delighting toddlers at a South Perth early learning centre.
Studio 64 Early Learning and Kindergarten in South Perth and Perth Modern School students have chipped away at painting a mural for a year, having started in April 2018.
Centre manager Chanele Duscher said young children had provided the inspiration for the artwork.
“The children at Studio 64 take daily walks on the foreshore in their ‘Turtle Pram’ and have described the wonderful things they see while on these walks to the students at Perth Modern,” she said.
Perth Modern visual art teacher Katie Chin said the children had suggested an array of animals from their nature walks, including – funnily – dinosaurs.
“Students wanted to include native animals that you might find in the environment and in consultation with the children from Studio 64 there were requests for tortoises, swans, dolphins and insects,” she said.
Fellow visual art teacher Sarah Eve said about 30 students designed the first 6m section last year and a different group this year finished off the final six metres.
“A call was put out at school at the beginning of 2018 for interested students, who met once a week after school,” she said.
The mural was finished in April this year after a couple of six-hour days of painting.
“It seemed incredible that we, the school students, had created this massive, professional looking mural,” visual art student Cait Downey said.
